Steve McNicholls founded Rocky Point Engineering Ltd. in 1997 to provide expertise in mechanical building services to the construction industry in British Columbia. The company is maintained as a small group, operating with twelve technical staff in addition to Steve, in two offices. The founding office is located in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. In 2004 we established a Lower Mainland office, located on the Surrey-Langley border. Steve's vision of the company is as a compact entity, providing a hands-on, personal service approach to his clients.
Steve first entered the consulting field as a mechanical draughtsman. Steve graduated from UBC with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. In the ensuing years he worked for mechanical consulting firms in Vancouver, Toronto and Nanaimo, prior to establishing Rocky Point Engineering Ltd in 1997. During his career he has worked on numerous health care facilities, elementary and secondary schools, post-secondary institutions, large and small commercial facilities, recreational, industrial and residential projects.
In recent years the company has moved toward including sustainable design and construction practices into our projects. Steve has designed and participated in overseeing construction of mechanical systems incorporating hybrid mechanical-natural ventilation systems, demand control ventilation, high efficiency boiler systems and geothermal heating/cooling plants, storm water retention and low water consumption buildings.
